Nigerian Army Officer Shot Dead While Resisting Kidnappers in Abuja
A serving member of the Nigerian military intelligence, Abdussalam Ude, was shot dead after allegedly trying to resist an attempt by armed assailants to abduct him at his residence in the Kurudu area of Abuja.
Newera News gathered that the incident took place on Monday evening shortly after the senior officer arrived at his home, according to PRNigeria. The attackers reportedly opened fire as he alighted from his vehicle before attempting to whisk him away.
Mr Ude, a Nigerian Army colonel, resisted the gunmen despite being outnumbered, preventing them from abducting him. Security sources quoted by the publication said the assailants subsequently shot him multiple times at close range, killing him.
The attack also left the officer’s wife, his driver and a security guard with gunshot injuries. They were taken to hospital and are currently receiving treatment.
The army has not released an official statement about the incident. When contacted, the army’s spokesperson, Appolonia Anele, told Newera News that she would get back to our reporter.
President Tinubu Condemns The Monday Attack on Kaduna Community
President Bola Tinubu has condemned the Monday attack on a Kaduna community that led to the death of about 30 people.
Newera News gathered that the attack in Naridon village of Kauru Local Government Area occurred on Monday morning and has been condemned by local and international rights groups.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack in a state that has witnessed many such attacks by armed groups in recent years.
According to a Tuesday statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the president described “the assault as an unprovoked act of terror against defenceless people.”
“I have directed the Armed Forces, police, and relevant intelligence agencies to intensify operations across the affected areas to track down the perpetrators swiftly and restore normalcy to the region,” the president was quoted as saying.
