Breaking: NIM/SIM Registration Deadline Extended By 8 Weeks
The ongoing National Identification Number NIN and SIM Registration Exercise have been extended by eight weeks.
Newera News gathered that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Pantami who conveyed the directive at a meeting with stakeholders to review the exercise and said the extension became necessary to give Nigerians and legal residents more time to integrate their NINs and SIMs in the system.
The meeting with the stakeholders also revealed that a total of fifty-six point eighteen million registered National Identity Numbers have been collected by the mobile network operators at one thousand and six registration centres for the process across the country.
Residents in Bauchi State are demanding more centres for the National identity registration exercise.
The residents made the plea at the state’s National Identity Management, NIM, office in Bauchi, which is the only designated registration centre in the state.
According to some of the residents who spoke to AIT live, the exercise is going smoothly, however, the demand for more centres became necessary, so as to reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus which is in its second wave.
State Coordinator, Isa Abdulmunmini, said the commission is planning to introduce a booking mechanism to cushion the plight of the people.
He said so far, about 1,000,000 applicants have been registered.
The applicants are still hoping for an extension of the federal government’s deadline.
