Tribunal Affirms Emmanuel’s Election As Akwa Ibom Governor

The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital has affirmed the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

A three-man panel of the Tribunal upheld the election of Governor Emmanuel in a unanimous judgement delivered on Thursday.

The Tribunal, however, dismissed the petition filed by Mr Nsima Ekere of candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lack of merit.

Governor Emmanuel, who was elected for a second term in office, won the March 9 governorship poll on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He defeated his APC rival and others to extend his stay in office by another four years.

However, it is not clear if Mr Ekere would challenge the judgement of the Tribunal at the Court of Appeal.

Meanwhile, Governor Emmanuel has commended the Tribunal’s judgement and dedicated his victory to God and the good people the state.

He also called on the opposition in Akwa Ibom to join him in developing the state.

According to the governor, the time has come for the people to come together and move the state forward as the ‘Completion Agenda’ was an Akwa Ibom Agenda.
