Police Trust Fund Launches Skills, Business Empowerment Programme for 2,000 Police Officers’ Wives
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), has launched a skills acquisition and business empowerment programme targeting more than 2,000 wives of junior police officers across Nigeria.
Newera News gathered that the initiative, unveiled at the M.D. Abubakar Police Barracks, Dei-Dei, Abuja, will provide vocational training and startup kits to beneficiaries to help them establish sustainable businesses, improve household incomes and strengthen the welfare of police families.
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, said the programme complements the Fund’s ongoing investments in police training, infrastructure and operational support by focusing on the economic wellbeing of officers’ families.
He noted that while police officers dedicate their lives to protecting Nigerians under challenging conditions, their wives also make significant sacrifices that deserve recognition and support.
According to him, the empowerment programme is designed to promote self-reliance and create sustainable income opportunities for beneficiaries through entrepreneurship.
“Today, as we present these startup packs, we are not merely distributing equipment. We are investing in opportunities, promoting self-reliance and creating pathways for lasting economic independence,” Sheidu said.
He urged beneficiaries to leverage the vocational skills and business support provided to build successful enterprises capable of improving their families’ livelihoods and creating value within their communities.
Sheidu reaffirmed the Trust Fund’s commitment to implementing welfare-focused initiatives in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and POWA to improve the lives of police personnel and their families.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented at the event by senior police officials, described the programme as a strategic investment in the welfare and resilience of police families.
He said supporting officers’ families ultimately contributes to a stronger and more effective police force, urging beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity by building sustainable businesses with the skills and startup resources provided.
“We are making a meaningful investment in the stability, resilience and wellbeing of police families,” he said.
Also speaking, the National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, described the programme as a landmark intervention that goes beyond vocational training to creating sustainable livelihoods for police families.
She commended the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for initiating the scheme, noting that empowering police officers’ wives would improve family welfare, strengthen morale and support the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, represented at the event, also applauded the initiative, saying it would promote self-reliance, improve household incomes and contribute to a more stable and productive environment for police families.
The nationwide programme is expected to equip beneficiaries with practical vocational skills and startup support to establish small businesses, reinforcing entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic empowerment and financial independence.
