Tanker Crushes Anambra Tricycle Operator To Death, Others Injured
A water tanker has reportedly crushed to death a tricycle operator and injured many residents in Anambra State.
The accident, which occurred on Tuesday at Nkpor on the Onitsha-Awka Old Road, near Onitsha, involved a Mercedes Benz 911 water tanker and a tricycle.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the crash was as a result of excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking by the lorry driver.
The acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra Sector Command, Kamal Musa, confirmed the accident.
He said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue after a doctor certified him dead.
Musa stated, “A fatal road traffic crash involving a yellow Mercedes Benz 911 water tanker with number plate XB 698 GDD and a yellow TVS tricycle without number plate was recorded opposite the Jodon Shopping Mall, Nkpor, along the Onitsha-Awka Old Road.
“The crash involved a total of five persons, four male adults and one female adult. Three male adults and one female adult, who sustained varying degrees of injury, were taken to the Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha, by the FRSC rescue team from the Nteje Unit Command.
“The dead victim was deposited in the hospital’s morgue after he was certified dead by a doctor at the hospital.”
Musa said the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Andrew Kumapayi while condoling with the deceased’s family and wishing the injured victim’s quick recovery, warned motorists to desist from excessive speed and wrongful overtaking on the highways.
