Solskjaer ‘Hurt’ By Liverpool Title Win As Man Utd Boss Hails Jurgen Klopp
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has congratulated Liverpool on their Premier League title win but says it ‘hurts’ to see someone else lift the trophy.
Liverpool ended their 30 years wait for a title on Thursday night as Chelsea’s win over Manchester City saw them crowned champions.
”First of all, any team that wins the championship and a Premier League deserves it and they deserve credit, it’s a hard league to win,” Solskjaer said in his press conference on Friday morning.
“So well done to Jurgen and his players. Every time you see anyone else lift the trophy it hurts.
“I reckon that’s the feeling everyone associated with Manchester United – all our players, staff supporters – we want to get back to winning ways and that’s our challenge. “
Manchester United fans will be hurting to see Liverpool crowned Premier League champions but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Jurgen Klopp’s side deserve to win the title nevertheless.
United sit an incredible 37 points behind the champions while fellow rivals Manchester City are also head and shoulders above the Red Devils.
Asked how far United have to go to reach Liverpool’s level, Solskjaer added: “I don’t think it’s time to… to say how far you’re behind.
“We are in a position now we have to improve, one we have to get in the Champions League, higher up in the league and, start challenging for trophies.
“That consistency and efficiency is a challenge for us as well.
“At our best we are very good, have to do that whatever day it is, do it again and again, that’s the challenge for our players going forward.”
United’s main aim this season is to secure Champions League football with a top-four finish.
An impressive 3-0 showing against Sheffield United last time out saw them close the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea.
But Chelsea’s win over City last night saw them maintain their five-point lead over United.
