Newcastle Succeeded At Holding Down Andy Carroll And Javier Manquillo With Contract Extentions

The Newcastle United have handed new deals to full-back Javier Manquillo and forward Andy Carroll in order to keep the pair at St James’ Park.

Mr.Javier Manquillo signed a new four-year contract, completing a remarkable resurrection for the Newcastle defender.

The Spaniard started the campaign as the third choice right-back with DeAndre Yedlin and new signing Emil Krafth ahead of him.

And with his current deal expiring this month, it looked as if the former Liverpool man would be on his way.

But Manquillo has quietly impressed Steve Bruce with his assured displays on the right flank and now he’s been rewarded with a long-term deal which keeps him at St James’ Park until 2024.

Andy Carroll put pen to paper on a new 12-month deal earlier this week and youngster Matty Longstaff, who was due to become a free agent next week, has signed a short-term deal.

While his future remains resolves, it means the 20-year-old midfielder, a target of Serie A side Udinese, will be available for the Toon’s remaining fixtures.

He has recovered from a slight knock which kept him out of the Magpies’ two games so far since Project Restart.

It’s been a good week for Toon chief Steve Bruce despite Aston Villa’s late equaliser in last night’s 1-1 draw.

Ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup quarter final at home to Manchester City, he said: “I’m really pleased we have been able to put these extensions in place and I’d like to thank the players for committing themselves to the club with some very important games to play.

“We have been proactive in trying to reach these agreements and they will give us the best chance of finishing the season as strongly as possible.

“I’m delighted Javier Manquillo and Andy Carroll have extended their contracts long term.

“They have both made important contributions this season and I am really pleased we can continue to call upon them beyond the summer,” he said.
