In the race to elect the next Nigeria’s President come 2023, many have suggested that an Igbo Man be given the opportunity to lead.
That Igboman must come from South-Eastern Nigeria. It is a good gesture to have notable Igbos indicating an interest in contesting for the position of President of Nigeria.
However, Ndi Igbo must make sure the best candidate is given the opportunity to lead purposefully.
This is because we have several Igbo leaders who are vying for the same position, and notable among them is former Governor of Anambra State, Sir. Peter Obi. He was the former Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections where former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was contesting for the position and still keen at contesting for the seat also.
However, with Peter Obi’s declaration for the 2023 presidential elections recently, it is obvious that Ndi Igbo will likely produce the next Nigeria’s president in the forthcoming 2023 general elections. He is one of the most qualified to turn the fortunes of the country around for the best.
Although candidates from the eastern zone hoping to clinch the PDP Presidential ticket should the position be zoned to the South East includes, former President of the Senate, Anyim Pius Anyim and Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State.
And should the APC Presidential ticket be zoned to the South East, you will have the, former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, and the current Minister of Works, former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amechi contending for that ticket.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been rumoured to become the consensus candidate of the APC but has yet to confirm the story.
One mistake Ndi Igbo must avoid is scattering of the Igbo votes as we have done previously in past elections. This is the time to speak with one voice and present a united front.
There must be a consensus on who leads us, who can change the tide to favour all and sundry.
The Igbos cannot afford to choose a man with a tribal, criminal sentiment like what we have witnessed in the current APC led federal government.
We must elect the most credible among all those indicating interests to be President. The candidate must be a man of integrity in all ramifications. He must have been tested, trusted and proven to be a non treasury looter by all standards.

The man must have a track record of wealth creation, wealth management and a strategic policy implimentor.
The president we need must be production driven, and not given to borrowing to pay salaries and other wasteful frivolities.
Indeed, we need a President that understand international politics, whose policies will be geared at the eradication of poverty, lifting the Nigerian people out of the quackmire currently occupied by many.
Such a candidate must be capable of translating written codes of governance to practical reality.
Expectations are already high, such that things must have to change rapidly for good.
Nigerians need a president who is compassionate enough to address the plight of the common man on the street.
Insecurity must be addressed quickly and forthrightly too.
Good governance, permanent electricity, security for all and sundry is all Nigerians crave for at this time.
Security of life and properties must become a priority, hence, job creation, massive infrastructural development must be in focus for the coming administration.
You will recall that during the years of the PDP rule in Nigeria, some of candidates indicating interest today to be President come 2023 were exposed to governance, tested and some passed the integrity test while some of them did not pass.
Some of the were found wanting as some proved to be looters of treasury. while some had no ideas of what leadership in the 21st century is all about.
Leadership is not about sharing or money among crunnies, friends and families, its about service to the people. It is Committment to serve humanity.
However, one among them excelled above others and we know who we can trust today better than the others.
A man of accountability whose previous work speaks volume should be given the mandate to lead.
We must therefore, not be in a hurry to present just any candidate yet. The best man must be chosen to do the Job.
