Revered Mohamed Salah is on the bench for tonight’s Merseyside derby with Everton as Liverpool look to move one step closer to the Premier League crown on Merseyside

Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah from the outset against Everton this evening.

The Egyptian is on the bench for the start of tonight’s Merseyside derby, which surprised fans when the team news dropped this evening.

“Some players couldn’t train in the last week – they trained, but not with the team – like Mo and Robbo, but yesterday they were in training and both looked really good. That’s why Mo is in the squad, Robbo not yet but on Wednesday [he will be] again.

“For Robbo, it was better to have a proper session today and then be in for Wednesday, and for Mo it is the right thing to do it like this.”

Takumi Minamino will start in Salah’s place in attack, alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Despite missing some key players, Klopp is confident his side can still return to action with a strong performance.

“I expect us to be in a good shape,” he said.

“I don’t know if we are 100% but Everton has had the same time [off]. It is all about being ready to face problems in a game and finding solutions

“In nine weeks of not doing anything you can lose almost anything. The players trained every day but we don’t train them for a specific moment as we had no idea until a week before that training would start again.

“Training is completely different if you just want to keep fit or be in the best shape for a specific day. We kept them fit until we knew until we go again and the boys don’t lose a lot.

“Unfortunately it is not like riding a bike. We have to bring 11 or more players together to have the same idea at the same moment.”

If Liverpool wins this evening, they simply need Burnley to beat Manchester City tomorrow evening to win the title.
