The race for the highest position in the country is becoming intense by the day, with notable stakeholders and politicians staking their claim to the top position of the country
Those who have been rumored to be interested although has not shown formal interest include Bola Tinubu, Adams Oshimhole, El-Rufai, Tunde Bakare, Atiku Abubakar and so many others.
The battle has also been drawn along ethnic, zonal and religious lines.
One zone is staking a high claim for the presidency position in the southeast zone. The zone has claimed to be marginalized over the years when it comes to holding a top political position as well as other positions in the country.
However, the problems the Igbos have now are which political party will they fly its flag and who will fly their flag.
As it stands, the only political party that will be likely to win the presidential position will be the current ruling All Progressive Congress, if they remain undivided and the main opposition, People’s Democratic Party with due respect to all other political parties. So, if the Igbos want to win, they will have to pitch their tent with any of the two-party.
That aside, the next question for the Igbos will be which candidate is the best suit for the position. The most likely will be Rochas Okorocha, Abaribe, Ekeremadu, and so many others.
Senator Abaribe who is currently clamoring for the resignation of the president has captured the minds of the whole southeast Zone as well as the South-South zone but how he will fair up North remains to be seen if he decides to contest for President.
Rochas Okorocha, the former Governor of Imo State and also a former contestant for the post of the President, no doubt has the best CV for the Job. He is widely regarded by the Northerns but lost his popularity in the East following his shortcomings as Imo Governor. It is still to be seen what will occur if he eventually decides to run.
Senator Ike Ekeremadu, the former deputy senate president, a national leader in all its ramifications. Although he was badly beaten by men of the IPOB in Germany, he still retains some level of popularity among the Easterns. However, how he will manage to call upon the North to come to his aid will be a tale for another day.
