Presidency Sets Date for Special FEC Meeting to Honour Late Buhari

The Presidency has announced that a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari will now hold on Thursday, July 17, at 1 pm.

Former Nigerian President, Late Muhammadu Buhari, had died on the 13th of July 2025 at a London hospital and was buried at his home town in Daura, Katsina State.

Newera News correspondent gathered that Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a post on Wednesday night.

President Tinubu is expected to lead members of his cabinet in paying tribute to the late Nigerian leader.

The session was originally planned for Tuesday, but was postponed following the announcement of Buhari’s state funeral in Daura, Katsina State, which took place the same day.

Buhari died on Sunday after a long battle with illness in a London hospital.

Meanwhile, former presidential candidate Peter Obi has opened up on the reason he was absent at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

Obi, who was one of the conspicuous absentees at the ceremony, which took place in Daura, Katsina State, explained that he could not get a flight to Katsina.

Obi was able to make it to Daura on Wednesday, where he commiserated with the family of the late former President.

“It was difficult to come yesterday (Tuesday) because there was no flight,” Obi told Arise TV.

“Even if there was a flight, you couldn’t land at Katsina Airport. It was all closed, because there were a lot of dignitaries.

“Mourning continues until tomorrow. So, whoever comes today and tomorrow is still part of the mourning.”
