US Embassy in Nigeria Shuts Down Activities to Honour Late President Muhammadu Buhari

The United States mission in Nigeria has announced the closure of its embassy in Abuja and the consulate general in Lagos on Tuesday, July 15

This decision is a mark of respect for the late former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had declared Tuesday a national public holiday to mourn the former leader, who died in London on Sunday after a brief illness.

He is expected to be laid to rest in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday.

Via its official X handle on Monday, the US Mission confirmed the temporary suspension of all services, including visa appointments scheduled for that day.

The mission added that all affected visa appointments will be rescheduled and that normal consular operations will resume on Wednesday, July 16.
