How APC Broom Swept Lagos LG Polls
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won 20 chairmanship seats in the Lagos State local government elections.
Newera News gathered that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had also announced that the APC won 375 out of 376 councillorship seats in the state.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a councillorship seat in Ward D of Yaba.
On Saturday, the majority of registered voters in the state went to the polls to elect their preferred chairpersons and councillors. These officials will oversee the affairs of the 20 local government areas (LGAs) and the 37 local council development areas (LCDAs).
According to the agency’s information, 15 out of the 19 registered political parties in the country have been confirmed to contest the positions of chairmanship and councillorship.
20 of the councils are Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Mushin, Ojo, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, and Surulere.
And the LCDAs are Orile Agege, Ifelodun, Agbado-Oke Odo, Ayobo-Ipaja, Egbe-Idimu, Mosan-Okunola, Oriade, Apapa Iganmu, Olorunda, Badagry West, Eredo, Ikosi-Ejirin, Ikoyi-Obalende, Iru/Victoria Island, and Lekki, respectively.
Despite complaints from opposition parties about malpractices during the exercise, the ruling party celebrates its victory across the state.
