I Will Make Nigeria a Prosperous Nation if Elected President –Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has presented his governance plan for Nigeria if elected as President in the upcoming electoral cycle.

Newera News gathered that the former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, pledged to abide by the rule of law, invest in education, which he described as a priority, as well as support the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

In addition, the presidential hopeful promised to appoint competent Nigerians to make up his cabinet in line with the nation’s principle of federal character.

“As the President of Nigeria, I will bring civility and order in governance. I will govern with the Constitution of Nigeria, and I will respect the Constitution. I will govern within the law, and I will make appointments by federal character. I will appoint competent persons with capacity and compassion for the good of Nigeria,” he said.

The LP chieftain said his government would prioritise the security of the lives and properties of all Nigerians.

He also promised to invest in education, which he described as a priority; healthcare, as well as supporting the SMEs.

“The things that, as President, I will have hands-on reported to me daily are the security of lives and properties of every Nigerian citizen, and the basic education of our children. It is more important for Nigeria to invest in education than oil.

“I will make sure that I have everything that happens about the health of Nigerians, ensuring that we increase the insurance coverage; the rich will pay, while the poor will benefit.

“I want to know what power we are generating and distributing daily. I want to look into the SMEs to ensure they are properly supported with adequate interest rates,” he added.

Obi said he would not follow the path of a president who also holds sway as the minister of petroleum.

Rather, he stated that every ministry would have competent persons in charge with the needed compassion to drive his administration’s agenda.

“I’m not going to be Minister of Petroleum. Every ministry would have a substantive minister with competent character, compassion, and capacity to run that ministry,” he stated.

Running For President

During the interview, the coalition leader said he would contest for the office of the President in 2027, dismissing rumours that he would be a running mate for Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it,” Obi stated.

When asked whether he was considering becoming the running mate to Atiku in the 2027 election, Obi said, “This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A, B, or C.”

The former Anambra governor stressed that he remained a vibrant member of the Labour Party even as an active member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition adopted by the opposition to unseat President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who is eyeing a second term of four years in office in 2027.
