How Simon Ekpa was Arrested in Finland
The arrest of Finnish politicianpolitician and Biafran activist Simon Ekpa, has been making headlines lately.
Newera News learnt that on November 21, 2024, he was arrested and sent to prison on charges of alleged terrorist activities ¹.
This isn’t his first run-in with the law; he was previously detained in 2023 on suspicion of illegal fundraising but was released shortly after ¹.
Ekpa has been leading the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) and has been vocal about his demands for Biafran independence from Nigeria.
How Simon Ekpa was Arrested in Finland
In fact, Ekpa recently unveiled a map of a proposed 40 “United States of Biafra” and announced December 2, 2024, as the date for its official presentation and issuance of a declaration of independence ¹.
The Nigerian government has been calling for his extradition from Finland, accusing him of fueling violence and terrorism in the region .
However, Ekpa maintains that he’s fighting for the rights of the Biafran people and has even urged the Nigerian government to engage in dialogue with the Finnish government to mediate the conflict

It’s worth noting that Ekpa’s activities have been met with both support and criticism. Some see him as a champion of Biafran independence, while others view him as a divisive figure responsible for inciting violence.
He was however apprehended by the Finnish law enforcement officers on his way to buy some groceries at certain shopping mall in Laatin.
Some of his IPOB members were also arrested in connection with terrorists activities.
