What You Need to Know about Lukarawa Terrorists
The Lukarawa (or Lakurawa) terror group recently emerged as a significant threat in Nigeria’s Northwestern regionNorthwestern region, particularly in Sokoto and Kebbi States.
Newera News learnt that this group reportedly formed due to disruptions in security cooperation between Nigeria and Niger following a military coup in Niger, which created gaps along the border.
Exploiting these vulnerabilities, Lukarawa has expanded its activities, targeting remote areas with limited government presence and evading Nigerian forces by using the region’s challenging terrain.
The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has identified this group as a major escalation in regional insecurity. Originally from Niger, Lukarawa gained a foothold in Nigerian border areas and has sought local support by appealing to certain communities.
