Trevoh Chalobah giving Thomas Tuchel a good headache, in more than one position on the field as Chelsea complete their pre-season ahead of their first Premier League match of the new season on Saturday against Crystal Palace
There has been one standout player of pre-season, and it is not a name anyone would have guessed before now.
We are of course speaking about Trevoh Chalobah, the younger brother of former Chelsea player Nathaniel.
Trevoh has been fantastic for Thomas Tuchel this pre-season and he has barely missed a minute. Tuchel has continued to select the young defender, and he even played the full 120 minutes as they won the Super Cup final last night.
He has really caught the eye of Tuchel and his coaches, and he has given them all a very good headache to have. He seemed destined to be leaving on loan, and he still might, but even Tuchel has admitted now that he has given them something to think about and they have yet to make the final decision.

Personally for his development, I am split 50/50 on what would be best to do with Chalobah this season, because largely sitting on the bench and only playing cup/rotation matches isn’t really going to be ideal for his development. But if Tuchel gives him regular games and we don’t end up signing Jules Kounde, then he absolutely must stay and has proven to be more than good enough.
I’m split on Chalobah. One side thinks stay, develop under Tuchel, alongside Thiago, Azpi etc and his versatility will see him get games at the back and in mid.

What Chalobah also has in his favour is he can play anywhere across the back, and also as a centre midfielder, so he gives Tuchel some needed versatility and different options.
Chelsea have been linked with signing a new centre back as well as a new centre midfielder this window, so if that cannot happen, then Chalobah could stay and cover both positions giving him more game time.
However, when I really deep it, I still think he will be heading out on loan this season and maybe that will be the best decision for his development. But fair play to the lad for really giving Tuchel something to think about and absolutely making the most of his opportunities, he definitely has a future at Chelsea.
