US Consul General Expresses Worry Over Press Freedom in Nigeria

The US consul general in Lagos, Claire pier Angelo has expressed worries that the introduction of legislation by the authorities in the country may have its consequences on the ability of the Nigerian press to discharge their duties as the watchdog of the society.

The consular general made this public at her official residence in Ikoyi Lagos Wednesday while interacting with journalists, media executives, and civil society groups on press freedom, freedom of expression, and civil space.

She called on the media to remain focused adding that the US is interested in the outcome of the ongoing negotiations between Twitter and the Nigerian technical committee to resolve the ban placed on the social media handle.
