Thomas Tuchel Assures Ben Chilwell Of His Position On The Pitch
Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel has asked Ben Chilwell to trust him after the left-back has found himself increasingly on the bench.
A favourite under previous boss Frank Lampard, Chilwell has found himself out of favour ever since Tuchel took the reins at Chelsea in late January.
Chilwell has been benched in three of Tuchel’s first five games in charge. He was subbed off in his only two starts.
Tuchel said via goal: “Yes, if he is [worried] I can understand. He has had some difficult choices against him, where they were tight choices. “I see with Chilly a very nice guy, reflective guy and an intelligent guy. “I maybe felt in the first days that it is possible he thinks a lot about this situation, but hopefully not too much because he can trust himself and us as staff that he can keep pushing and we will find possibilities to reward him. “He showed a good performance in Sheffield United and it was important for him and the team. “Sometimes it takes a little time and there are hard decisions at the moment, with a squad of 22 players. “If he keeps ongoing, as a fantastic guy, he has a lot of potentials and we will find possibilities for him on the pitch.
The £50 million signings from Leicester City came flying out the blocks at the beginning of the season, scoring and assisting on his debut in a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.
However, the England left-back now finds himself often benched as the new Chelsea head coach sees Marcos Alonso as a more accomplished wing-back in the 3-4-2-1 system he employs.
