Finally NASU, SSANU Protest Spread To Enugu, Abia States
The Non-teaching staff of the University of Nigeria, have joined their colleagues across the country who embarked on a three-day warning strike.
At a peaceful protest at the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus, leaders of the unions say the strike is to address the Federal government’s failure, to honour the agreement reached and signed with the Unions on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
The protesting NASU and SSANU members, who came out with placards bearing inscriptions such as; FG, be sincere for once; IPPIS is a failure; honour agreement signed with NASU and SSANU among others, described the Federal government’s actions as insincere and insensitive to the plight of the University workers.
Negotiations between the Nigerian government and NASU/SSANU have been lingering since 2009 with no concrete solutions.

The Chairman of NASU, University of Nigeria, Enugu campus, Comrade Kalu Agwu, warns that the Unions will shut down the University system if the government fails to meet their demands.
In a similar development the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, in Abia State, have also joined the nationwide protest against the Non-payment of Earned Allowances and other issues.
The Unions are also protesting what they described as inconsistencies in payments using the Integrated Personnel payment System, IPPIS.
The Chairman of SSANU who doubles as the Chairman of Joint Action Committee of the Unions, Ken Njoku, says the workers are not happy with the non-payment of the retirement benefits to their members.
The Unions are also protesting against the non-payment of the minimum wage.
