Man Shot, Killed After Opening Fire On Cops In Queens
A 24-year-old man was shot dead by police after he opened fire on cops in Queens while they executed an arrest warrant on Thursday afternoon, police and sources told newsmen.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. when members of the NYPD Warrant Squad approached the unnamed suspect near 114th Avenue and 183rd Street in Rochdale, sources said.
The man was wanted in an earlier shooting, but he fled the scene in a white Audi Q5 but crashed into a parked SUV nearby, according to neighbours and sources.
It was unclear when the exchange of gunfire took place, but the sources said the man was armed and fired at police.
He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to police sources.
Police are scheduled to hold a press briefing on the shooting at the 113th Precinct later Thursday.
