Lampard Set To Appoint New Team Captain For Chelsea (See List of Players)
Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, is set to appoint a new team captain in the coming days. Globo reports indicates that star player, Thiago Silva is the most favoured to wear the captain band of the team.
Thiago admitted he had played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain last Sunday, following a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
PSG boss, Thomas Tuchel, is desperate for the 35-year-old to remain with the Ligue 1 champions, but the Brazilian’s mind is made up.
And part of that may be down the importance of the role he is set to play at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard will ask Silva to wear the armband for the 2020/2021 season, taking it from Cesar Azpilicueta.
This decision could lead to tensions within the dressing room, as Azpilicueta is popular among squad members.
The Spaniard has won the Chelsea armband before the 2019/2020 began.
Paul Barber hopes Brighton’s friendly in front of 2500 fans on Saturday will be the first step to full capacity crowds returning to English football.
“From an economic point of view, we need to move through the gears fairly quickly in order to ensure the viability of clubs up and down the country.
“We see this as a first tentative step to not just help ourselves or clubs in the Premier League but clubs right the way through the football pyramid.”
