Just In: Chelsea To Announce The Signing Of Kai Havertz This Week (Watch Out)
The Bayer Leverkusen man has had an impressive season in the Bundesliga and has drawn attention from Chelsea, among a number of clubs
Chelsea looks to have won the race to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig – and he might not be the only highly-rated German joining the club this summer.
football.london understands the Blues are “highly confident” of landing Werner before his £53million release clause expires on June 15.
And Frank Lampard may be about to turn his attention to another Bundesliga star, Kai Havertz.
According to Bild, the Bayer Leverkusen forward would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge ahead of next season, although Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Newcastle are also thought to be keeping tabs on the 21-year-old.
Chelsea has been able to fund the move for Werner because they have spent very little in recent transfer windows. In that regard, the transfer ban that restricted incomings last summer have worked out well for Lampard and co.
Chelsea did spend £98.1million on Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic in the run-up to this season, but they also received £90million from the sale of Eden Hazard
The Blues raised further funds through the exits of David Luiz, Tomas Kalas and Ola Aina among others.
After having their transfer ban reduced to one window on appeal, Lampard was free to add to his squad in January.
But Chelsea did not complete a single signing in the mid-season market – much to the frustration of some fans at the time.
However, the club’s decision to hold back in the winter is part of the reason why they won the race for Werner.
And with Liverpool unlikely to be alone in opting out of big-money transfers this summer, Chelsea may also be able to tempt Havertz to west London.
