Indeed Chelsea Will Need More Than Ziyech, Werner And Havertz To Challenge Liverpool For The Title

Most of the Blues supporters are getting excited with the potential of Chelsea’s summer transfer window, but will it be enough? Chelsea fans think otherwise.

Chelsea fans are getting pretty excited by the incoming summer transfer window.

Having already sealed the signature of Hakim Ziyech in February, the Blues are set to make Timo Werner another marquee signing for next season.

The Blues are set to pay the release clause in his RB Leipzig contract after agreeing with terms with the Germany international to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Added to that, the club is keeping tabs on Kai Havertz and are interested in signing him from Bayer Leverkusen, however, that is going to be difficult to complete.

However, there appears to be something of a three-season plan to make the Blues proper contenders with Liverpool.

While the transfer news is no doubt exciting for those supporters who are keen to see Chelsea at the top of the tree once more, the Blues could still be some way off it.

Jurgen Klopp has certainly built an enviable side at Anfield, which is spearheaded by the front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto.

But at its core, there is the defensive combination of Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence and Alisson Becker in goal.

Right now, Chelsea still lacks that consistency at the back and they cannot move forward until that is fixed.

While the Reds have conceded just 21 goals, the least in the league, Chelsea is currently ninth in that table, having conceded 39.

That’s the worst inside the top six, and while the Blues have had their woes in front of goal at times, they have struggled to see out matches at the back.

There is no doubt that the attacking edge was needed to be fixed and the development of the forward play will take Chelsea to another level.

But if they are going to be true contenders, then the centre-back position is going to be vital to sort out.
