Real Men Must Unite With Their Family Where Ever They May Be Until Coronavirus Is Under Control – Mikel Obi

Ex-Super Eagles captain and former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has said he canceled his contract with the Turkish Super Lig Club Trabzonspor to protect his family.

The midfielder ended his contract with Trabzonspor on Tuesday after he criticized the Turkish Super Lig for allowing full stadiums during matches despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

Since the outbreak of the virus, several sports stars have been infected while games have either been canceled or postponed.

“I can tell you without any equivocation that all real men must protect family and friends, the government must protect citizens against any form of external attacks be it, terrorists, diseases or whatever they are called. I will protect my family, and to do that I will reunite with my family”, he said.

Mikel took to Instagram to send goodwill messages to the his fans,  coaches, ex teammates and the medical team for their positive contributions to his stay at the Turkish club.

“I would like to thank all the fans for their support. I also want to say thanks to all my teammates, technical crew, medical team and the kit man Ayatabe for all we’ve achieved this season so far, wish you guys best of luck in winning the league. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make, but in the current situation, we all need to take care of our families, spend time with them and protect them. #lifefirst #stayhome #family.”

Mikel Obi has won two English  Premier League titles, 3 English  FA cups , a Uefa champions league and a Uefa  Europa League,  all with his former club Chelsea before moving to the Turkish side.
