Ighalo Scores First United Goal In Victory Over Brugge
Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo has scored his first Manchester United goal in a 6-1 victory on aggregate over Club Brugge in the Europa Cup.
The Thursday Europa match was played at Old Trafford, as United had already secured a 1-1 draw away to Brugge.
Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty to put the team in a 1:0 lead in the 27 minutes, thereby extending the scoreline to 2-1 on aggregate.
United’s new signing, Ighalo took a dramatic shot to convert a level cross from teammate to add to the scoreline in the 34 minutes.
Scot McTominay, however, took United to a comfortable lead after he found the back of the net in the 41 minutes of the first half, which ended the first half score at 3:0 and 4:1 on aggregate.
United pressured the visiting team in the second half, with lots of creativity from Fernandes. The visitors reciprocated with few unimpressive counter attacks.
Fred scored the fourth goal of the night in the 82 minutes to increase the tally to 5:1 on aggregate. The match, however, ended with United moving through to the next stage of the competition.
The Brazilian added another to secure a brace while the goal tally hits 5:0, and 6:1 on aggregate.
Meanwhile, Fernandes and Ighalo were both signed in the January transfer window, following United’s poor performance.
